Hungexpo Revitalization
Owing to the most significant development project of the last decades, at HUNGEXPO more than 70.000 m2 covered area and an open-air area of 36 hectares have been reconstructed: 3 exhibition halls in an area of total 32,000 m² (halls A, B and D) and simultaneously 2 pavilions (pavilions F and G) have undergone a minor reconstruction. In addition, two new pavilions, one in an area of 7,250 m2, one in an area of 5,700 m2 (E and H), a reception building (F1) and the country's most modern congress center have been constructed, as a result of which Hungexpo will be suitable for accommodating international conferences of any size in the future. Around the facility there were 3,300 indoor and 840 outdoor car parks constructed. The total public utility infrastructure of the area resulted also in high quality landscaping and the increase in the green area.
The new 7,800 m2 F1 reception building, built on the site of the old fountain and pool, will serve as the main entrance to HUNGEXPO and as a visitor distribution building. The building's triskelion-shaped architecture will serve as an organic, contemporary architectural element to offset the austere pavilion landscape and accentuate the arrival area. The new F1 hall is emblematic for its curved form. The exception is a very special "guitar blade" shaped wall, one of the pride of the construction team.
The building consists of a single unit without dilatation gaps, on the ground-floor of which the guest access control areas (6 cash-desks, 10 information desks, access points) and the infrastructure background functions, such as the buffet and the toilets can be found. On the additional two stories of the building the facility contains offices serving the operation function and an event room of 242 m² for 300 persons. In the airy, spectacular building almost all structures are visible and the partition walls were built of a modular glass partition wall system with excellent acoustical properties. The mechanical installations supplying the building were installed on the top level, in the "donut" section and, in addition to the further mechanical installations, the cellar accommodates the area's energy center, stores and warehouses.
Total ca. 6,500 m3 of concrete has been placed that required formworks with a surface of 17,500 m2 and 755 tons of reinforcement steel bars. The area of the triangular glass facade surfaces is ca. 1,300 m2 and the weight of the external steel structure supporting the covering of the building is ca. 750 tons.
