bim.GROUP Kft. colleague wins Engineer of the Year Gold Ring Award
The prestigious Engineer of the Year Gold Ring Award of the Hungarian Chamber of Engineers went to András Balázs Kocsis, Head of Business Development at bim.GROUP Kft., this year. He was honoured for his contribution to the design of the steel structure cladding of the Puskás Arena.
Over the years, András Balázs Kocsis and his team have been involved in projects such as the Groupama Arena, the National Athletics Centre and the Danube Arena, but he has also worked abroad, on structural designs for the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in London, for example, but has also lent his expertise to the construction of the Fisht Stadium in Sochi built for the Winter Olympics. His work has now also caught the eye of the Chamber, as this year he was named recipient of the Engineer of the Year Gold Ring Award for his contribution to the design of the steel structure cladding of the Puskás Arena.
The newly-built pylons (similar to the free-standing pillars of the former Népstadion) of this nationally and internationally outstanding facility, inaugurated in November 2019, play a fundamental structural role. The elements of the cantilevered steel roof structure, with an extension of eighty metres, hung onto these pylons are inherently rigid and transfer their load to the sword-shaped blades (which are connected to the pylons) by means of tensioned stranded clamping.
"I was very moved to be recognised for my engineering achievements in this fashion and that the Board of Trustees deemed me worthy of this award. It is important to underline that the implementation of such a large-scale project is always a team effort and success requires the dedication and hard work of the engineers involved. This award is also a recognition of their achievements”, said András Balázs Kocsis upon receiving the award.
