New dock and renovated surroundings at the busiest passenger boat port on the southern shore of Lake Balaton
The development of the Fonyód passenger boat port, carried out by KÉSZ Group, has been completed. During the project, which covered an area of approximately 4,000 square meters, MA-HARD Kft. carried out a comprehensive renovation of the water infrastructure and the shoreline environment, contributing to the more modern and efficient operation of Lake Balaton’s busiest passenger boat port.
The Fonyód port is Lake Balaton’s busiest passenger port and plays a key role in connecting the southern and northern shores. It provides a direct link to the Badacsony wine region and the popular tourist destinations on the northern shore, which is why its development was of paramount importance to both BAHART and the town of Fonyód.
During the project, MA-HARD Kft. renovated the marina’s existing western and eastern pier heads, raised the level of the pier promenade, and expanded the passenger boat dock to accommodate three vessels. The new berth increases the port’s service capacity and enables more flexible operations during the busy summer season.
The project, covering an area of approximately 4,000 square meters, involved significant hydraulic engineering and landscaping work. Among other things, 360 m² of new steel sheet piling, 1,500 m³ of natural stone for hydraulic engineering, 460 running meters of precast reinforced concrete slope revetment, and 4,000 m² of new paving were installed. In addition, green spaces were revitalized, a new public lighting network was installed, and electric bicycle chargers and a small playground were also added to the area.
Construction began in August 2025, with substantive work commencing after the end of the boating season. The project was completed on a tight schedule, amid Lake Balaton’s often stormy weather conditions, by the KÉSZ Group and its subcontractors—MA-HARD Kft., Provim Kft., Mahart Tiszayacht Kft., Inter Tefu Kft., Naste Bau Kft., Havaria Építő Kft. The completed development serves both to improve the efficiency of passenger shipping operations and to enhance the quality of public spaces along the shores of Lake Balaton.
