CO₂ as a raw material - Hungarian technology can help make industry more sustainable

A Hungarian development could be a key element of the industry of the future: MATECH, a member company of KÉSZ Group, has entered into a partnership with eChemicles Zrt. to build a new containerized carbon dioxide conversion plant. The aim of this innovative solution is to ensure that CO₂ emissions are not treated as waste, but as a valuable, recyclable industrial raw material.

MATECH, a member company of KÉSZ Group's Industrial Technologies Division (KIT), plays a key role in the construction of eChemicles' patented technology in Szeged, which will enable the industry to not only emit CO₂ in the future, but also reuse it. The process converts carbon dioxide, a by-product of industry, into a valuable green raw material that can be used in a number of industries, such as the chemical, steel, and plastics industries, as well as in the production of synthetic fuels. When powered by renewable energy, the system is completely environmentally friendly. The primary goal of the technology is to help industry transition to green raw materials in the long term, as well as to neutralize harmful emissions, thereby contributing to a smaller environmental footprint.

"The industrial and technological experience of KÉSZ Group enables our technology to reach the industrial environment. This container unit is the first step towards CO₂ utilization actually gaining a foothold in the market," said Dr. Csaba Janáky, co-founder and CEO of eChemicles, about the project.

MATECH Magyar Technológiai Kft. is participating in the project as an engineering, procurement, and construction expert. Building on more than a decade of experience in implementing industrial technology projects, the company is responsible for constructing the containerized CO₂ conversion system, which integrates the electrolysis cells and other technological units necessary for operation into a 6-meter industrial container.

András Károlyi, managing director of MATECH Kft., added: "We are proud to be involved in turning research results into industrial solutions. With our team's engineering and construction expertise, we are helping to make CO₂ utilization not just a laboratory experiment, but an industrial reality."

The aim of the development is to create a second-generation prototype suitable for industrial testing, which will pave the way for the wider application of carbon dioxide utilization systems. Through this joint effort, KÉSZ Group's Industrial Technologies division is further expanding its portfolio of sustainable industrial technologies, playing an active role in creating a carbon-neutral industry.
